FAQs

Answers to frequently asked questions from Scalable Path freelancers.

Getting Started as a Scalable Path Freelancer

How do I join Scalable Path as a freelancer?

You can start by clicking the 'Apply as a Freelancer' button to create an account and complete your profile. We hand-select the most appropriate candidates for each project according to their skills, experience, and availability. Once you have been invited to a role, you will receive a link that allows you to apply for that position.

How do I apply for a position?

Once you’ve completed your profile on our platform, we’ll get in touch with you if we have a client that needs someone with your skills. Once we’ve found a role that fits your skills, we’ll contact you to see if you’re interested. The vetting process begins after you have applied for the role by answering a set of questions specific to the position.

Working as a Scalable Path Freelancer

How can I improve my chances of getting selected for an interview?

The best step you can take is to make sure all sections of your profile are complete and accurate. The Scalable Path team hand-picks the most appropriate candidates for every project, so completing your profile (especially the Skills section) will increase your chance of being invited to apply to a role.

What should I expect in an interview and how should I prepare?

If you’ve developed a professional profile, the next step is to ensure you’re well prepared for interviews. This is your opportunity to showcase your experience, skills and personality. If you’re looking for advice on how to best prepare, we’ve written an interview guide to help you.

I’m new to freelance work, how should I choose my hourly rate?

If you are making the leap from the world of traditional employment to freelance software development, you’ll want to understand what you should be earning and how to set your rate. Our guide will help you determine an hourly rate that reflects your experience and skill level in your field.

How do I set up my Scalable Path profile?

After you’ve applied as a freelancer, creating your profile is easy. Simply fill out some basic information about yourself to get started. While this can be done fairly quickly, you can also spend more time developing a detailed profile, which will showcase more of your strengths and skills to clients.

Requirements

What are the prerequisites for working as a Scalable Path freelancer?

In order to become a Scalable Path freelancer, you must have strong spoken and written English skills, a fast and reliable computer and internet connection, willingness to adjust to clients’ working schedules, a track record of delivering high-quality work, a positive and professional attitude, and a desire to continuously learn and improve yourself.

How does the vetting process work?

Once your profile is complete, you may be invited to apply for roles that match up with the Skills section of your profile as well as your time zone. If you get invited to an interview, you’ll first meet with the Scalable Path talent team. This first interview helps us get to know you better: we'll discuss your work experience and how it’s relevant to this specific role. If you pass the first interview, you’ll move onto a technical interview conducted by the Scalable Path team. In this meeting, you’ll be asked about the uses of specific technologies and may be required to do a live coding exercise while sharing your screen. If you pass our vetting process, you may be presented to the client. When you are presented, the client will be able to see your public profile. From there, they can request to interview you. Each client has their own approach to the interview process, so further instructions will be provided to you prior to your client interview.

Why do I have to go through a vetting process?

We require every freelancer in our network to go through our vetting process in order to work on client projects. This provides an extra level of validation to our client that every freelancer we recommend for their projects has the skills to excel.

How long does the vetting process take?

Generally, the vetting process takes between 3-5 days. However, it can move faster if you’re able to schedule interviews right away. The initial interview with our talent team takes approximately 30 minutes and the technical interview typically lasts 1 hour. If we can schedule these interviews with you quickly, the process can take less than 48 hours.

Payments

Does Scalable Path take a cut from the hourly rate that I set?

No. The rate you set is what you get paid. We may recommend that you adjust your rate if we think it is not aligned with the market, but ultimately, you set your own rate as a freelancer.

How do payments work?

Payments are made via ACH or wire transfer from our bank. These transfers can be made to nearly any international bank, so most likely you will be able to deposit your payment into your current bank account wherever you are. We cover our bank’s wire transfer fees, but we can’t control or cover any transaction or foreign exchange fees that your bank may charge you.

When can I expect to get paid?

Scalable Path pays monthly for all work completed, submitted and approved from the previous month. Payments are typically initiated on or around the 20th of the month so that the payment reaches you in time.
