Contractor FAQ

Answers to questions about how Scalable Path engages with Contractors.

Overview

How do I join Scalable Path as a contractor?

Scalable Path does not let freelancers bid for projects. Instead, we hand-select the most appropriate candidates for each project according to their skills, experience, and availability. Once you have been invited to a role, you will receive a link that allows you to apply for the position.

How do I apply for a position?

Once you’ve completed your profile on our platform, the ball is in our court to get in touch with you if we have a client that needs someone with your skills. As soon as we have found a role that fits your skills, we will contact you to see if you are interested. The vetting process begins after you have applied for the role by answering a set of questions specific to the position.

How can I improve my chances of getting selected for an interview?

The most important thing for you to do is make sure that all sections of your profile are complete and accurate. The Scalable Path team hand selects the most appropriate candidates for every project, so completing your profile (especially the Skills section) will increase your chance of being invited to apply to a role. We wrote this article to help guide you through the important aspects of setting up your Scalable Path profile.

How can I improve my chances of being hired for a project?

Proper preparation is essential to ensure you perform well in your interviews and improve your chances of being hired for a client project. This is your opportunity to showcase your experience, skills and professionalism. If you are looking for some tips on how to best prepare, we’ve written an interview guide to help you.

I’m new to freelance work, how should I choose my hourly rate?

If you are making the leap from the world of traditional employment to the life of a freelance software developer, it’s crucial to have an understanding of what you should be earning and how to set your rate accordingly. Our guide will help you determine an hourly rate that reflects your experience and skill level in your field.

How do I set up my Scalable Path profile?

Requirements

What are the prerequisites for working as a developer through Scalable Path?

In order to become a Scalable Path contractor, you must have strong spoken and written English skills, a fast and reliable computer and internet connection, willingness to adjust to clients’ working schedules, high-quality work, a positive and professional attitude, and a desire to constantly learn and improve yourself.

How does the vetting process work?

Once your profile is complete, you may be invited to apply for roles that match up with the "Skills" section of your profile and your time zone. If your application is thorough and relevant to the role, you may be invited to your first interview with the Scalable Path Talent team. This first interview helps us get to know you better - we'll discuss your work experience and how it is relevant to this specific role. If you pass the first interview, there will be a second “technical” interview conducted by a member of our technical team. In this meeting, you will be asked about the uses of specific technologies and will likely be asked to do a coding challenge while sharing your screen. If you pass our vetting process, you will be presented to the client. If you are presented, the client will be able to see your public profile and request to interview you. Each client has their own approach to the interview process, so further instructions will be provided to you prior to your client interview.

Why do I have to go through a vetting process?

We require every developer in our network to go through our vetting process in order to work on client projects. We do this so that we can guarantee to our clients that every developer we place on their projects has the skills necessary to excel in their position.

How long does the vetting process take?

Generally, the vetting process takes between 3-5 days but can move faster if you are able to schedule your interviews right away. The initial interview takes approximately 30 minutes long and the technical interview typically lasts 1 hour. If we can schedule these interviews with you quickly, the process can take less than 48 hours.

Payments

Does Scalable Path take a cut from the hourly rate that I set?

No. The rate you set is the rate you get. We may recommend that you adjust your rate if we think that it is not aligned with the market, but ultimately, you set your own rate as a freelancer.

How do payments work?

Payments are made via ACH or wire transfer from our bank. These transfers can be made to nearly any international bank, so it is likely that you will be able to deposit your payment into your current bank account wherever you are. We cover our bank’s wire transfer fees, but we cannot control or cover any transaction or foreign exchange fees that your bank may charge you.

When can I expect to get paid?

Scalable Path pays monthly for all work completed, submitted and approved from the previous month. Payments are typically initiated on or around the 20th of the month so that the payment reaches you in time.
